What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They let a site remember things — that you’re signed in, a choice you made, or whether you’ve visited before. Similar technologies such as local storage are covered by “cookies” here too.
Please note: this is a working draft pending legal review and will be finalised before launch.
How We Use Cookies
We use a small number of cookies: the ones the site and application need to function, and analytics that help us understand what’s working so we can improve Mortar. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t run third-party advertising trackers on our site.
Types of Cookies
Essential (always on)
These make the site and application work. Without them you can’t sign in or stay signed in securely.
- Authentication and session cookies — keep you signed in.
- Security cookies — protect against fraud and abuse.
Analytics (optional)
These tell us how the site and product are used so we can make them better. We use PostHogfor product and site analytics — aggregate trends and usage events, not profiles for sale.
Managing Cookies
- Cookie consent banner: where consent applies, you can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the consent banner shown when you first visit, and change your choice at any time.
- Your browser:every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies will break sign-in — that’s simply how sessions work.
